The Right Breath

Slow is why you make it, for a separate peace

finding Buddhist ponder, Quaker quiet.

To those demanding tribute, turn the other face

slowly as you make it, at a modest pace.

You're born for a certain span and given space

to stand and hold the world and try it --

deep is how you feel it, in the inner place

finding Buddhist ponder, Quaker quiet.

  3. Strikes my warped mind as a bit of a Beat triolet--with assonance and signature style. And I don't think you sacrificed too much to the form, rather bent it to your purpose.

  5. Brian,

It really was a one-shot. Strictly a lyrical try to fill a form. Not my usual 'thing' -- but I liked how it came out.

  6. Barbara,

Recent decade moved me to avoid the sudden desperation people felt and the reactive ideas they came up with.

There's value in watching the rush pass.

The form was suggested by another of us, hedgewitch. She gave me the impetus, I took up the attempt.

  7. Joy,

When I go too 'musical' I get nervous. So this form did have to bend or I would 'go bulemic'. Nevertheless, I did slather on the rhyme, not so?

Beat. I hadn't thought of it, but it does mix east/west meditations.

  8. Fireblossom,

I worry about 'flow'. This does. So long as it doesn't become 'flow-through', I feel safe.

  9. Claudia,

I like peace. So often my writing holds too much irony for it. I traveled a comfortable path this time.
