Post-Partum

Symbolism is no fake.  Things are not just 'things' in themselves, blunt stuff that has no fourth or fifth or sixth dimension -- measured in a mind's eye.

The woman of a couple she's dismayed since much of the space, the ample flat being let, is dressed in white, fashionable teeth-like bright

Clean and pure, the bounce of 'no' color, the heart of a child ready for impress of primary hue and crying out loud for only the good we have to offer

So her eyes downcast, her mouth covered-up, she's rushed back to the real estate car and even thinking why did I trust this why even come close to this monster place

Brought to the spotlit rooms where shadows shall come, where a clear glow hints an eventual dusk, its ghost, just half-a-tick, half-a-tock, away

.

  2. This is compulsive reading. Brilliant stuff. Should be standard issue to the troops.

  5. Me, Dude,

Always glad to get your praise, Bro. (Incidentally, just re-watched The Fabulous Baker Boys after all this time -- Jeff's just held his 'cool' year after year.)

  6. Dave,

I do issue this stuff on a standard basis to those I hope are the troops -- my version of necessities, like chewing gum and condoms. Hope these last longer.

  7. Brian,

Still working on whether we need to see or we are seeing or we make when we see.

    See?

  8. Barbara,

Yeah. I do hate to go against the sense-realism of the previous century or more. And William Carlos Williams and so many painterly eyes want things to be sensed.

I 'dig' that. But I feel such an approach actually is another way to establish 'what is'.

And 'what is' isn't until we see it that way. Even though it's there. Am I not ontologically a . . .

  9. I read this through several times, each more slowly than the last, sucking up its truth and meditation. Thanks.

Sorry it's been such a long time ...

  10. "...the heart of a child ready for impress of primary hue and crying out loud for only the good we have to offer..." Some stellar writing here, TF...lots of metaphors going on...

  11. Isabel,

My writing sometimes goes 'absurd', sometimes 'comic', sometimes 'dark', and not seldom 'meditative' -- that I've reached your wave length gratifies me.

  12. Tess,

Were we 'around a table' explaining work to one another, I could deal with the process of how this one came about. That development would get lost here in this small space.

Let me just admit what you may realize about your own writing -- the end result gelled unbeknownst to me. What holds coherent here was never a sought intention.

Just the phrasings were consciously 'liked' as I did them. The 'meaning' formed itself.
