Melancholia

The woman on the moon is being forced to the earth

she's brought with her, cheese curds in her breasts

her milky breasts dripping tears of her temper --

Gentle Ophelia, she of crazy hormones.

Why not end a world with a cosmic bang

why not go down with a stymied prince

a secret assassination first, R and G, the stab

through the arras, you, he, and a whole world, boom.

  2. Tess,

Your comment beats mine on Magpie to the punch! I had this half written, so your Ophelia, did my duty!

    2. I've been diverted from 'my game' for a while. Perhaps now back in.

  4. Thanks, Brian!

I was hoping to catch much in 'small explosions'.

  5. TF, you write a classically poetic piece here, suggesting what a song in the early 70's said: "Let's drop the big one now: They don't like us anyhow."

No, but seriously, your writing is always on a level for us mere mortals to aspire to!

    1. Rick,

If you can believe this . . . I AM mortal!

I did like this piece. Sometimes I don't feel confident at all, but this time it was both lean and 'connected to canon' (but I always try for the 'quirky' allusiveness).

Partly S'peare, of course. Partly that gorgeously depressive and visually stunning film by Lars van Trier.

      Thanks for your good words!

    1. Berowne,

I always prize your comments. And I've certainly recognized your 'chops' with literature.

The Hamlet I had in mind was the filmed Branagh one. I myself have hidden behind an arras or two in my time.

I wasn't quite certain of the order of deaths, but figured any goof might earn license in the eye of keen readers. If I've erred, I thank you for not calling me to task.

This can get more convoluted, but I'll exercise my knot-tricks trying to figure out how to eliminate Word Verification. Frankly I wasn't even aware it was in place!

Thank you for reading, Master Lit!
